The club formed in 1998 and has gone from strength to strenght. The club was formed for the interest of all local metal detectorist in and around the Preston area.

Meeting Date
Meetings are to be held on the first Monday of every month at the "Thurlby Club" in Ashton, Preston, Lancashire. The meetings a start at 8:00pm, this date will be changed accordingly towards Bank Holidays. If the meeting does occur on a Bank Holiday the the meeting will then be held the following Monday.
Name of the new club
Several names had been put foward, such as Ribble Searchers, Ribble Metal Detecting Club. The most appropriate name was decided by all club members as the "South Ribble Metal Detecting Club".
Conditions of new Club & Membership
Numbers will be limited to 30 members only, currently 30. No dual membership is allowed.
Please note membership is currently closed due to reaching maximum numbers.
Fees
Club fees are to be set at 30 pounds per year, this will include 10 pound for the year to join the Thurlby Club, our meeting venue. Seven pounds to be refunded if a rally site is forthcoming and organised within the year of joining. Unemployed will pay a minimum of fifteen pounds every six months. Students and members over 65 will pay a nominal fee of 25 pounds per year. Club fees are payable within one month of being accepted to the club's membership.
Children under 16 will pay a nominal fee of 6.50 pounds per year. Fees are also to be renewed in March of every year.
Rallies
Rallies are to be organised by the proposed who will have a clear agreement with the farmer to allow the club onto the site. If this is not the case and alternative site must be forthcoming. Eeach member must assist in the organisation of their own rallies. If the proposted member is not capable of organising such events, help will be given as and when needed.
All club members must be willing to assist in club matters (rallies, marshalling). Please note that this club is being run for all member's enjoyment and NOT individuals. The success of this venture entirely depends on the participation of all members who in turn will gain further interest from the hobby. No members are permitted to obatin search permission on any rally site unless the said member gains permission from the clubs membership & original site finder.
Finds
All finds are recorded by our local Pas officer (Portable Antiquities Scheme). Finds are documented and placed on a national website for all to view.
Find of the month
Only two categories in the competition. Best coin or best artefact in that perticular month. Only one overall winner at the end of the year, with a cash prize.
Raffle
The raffle prizes are to be improved (i.e £5 per item).
Lottery and quiz's are also to be played for the members and clubs benefit.
